Sweet Stewed Plums

Sweet Stewed Plums are so very easy to make. Sometimes we (including me!) just need reminding of how simple it is to create a different taste simply by stewing them. Different vaarieties of plums are in season from June to November—and this is the best time to eat them. They are delicious lightly cooked as the cooking brings out the sweetness – definitely no sugar required!

Makes 3-4 portions

    • 6 good sized plums
    • 100 ml water
    • Optional – half a teaspoon of ground cinnamon

The easiest way to remove the stones, is to do this. Take a small knife, and cut each plum all the way around as if the a line encircled North Pole to South Pole. Create a new cut line, again top and the bottom so you have created quarters. Now turn the plum, create a new cut, as if this was the equator line. When this has been cut, twist the the top half of the plum in one direction, and the bottom half of the plum in the opposite direction. The nut will almost drop out out for you and you will have 8 pieces of cut plum.

Place plum pieces into saucepan with the water. If using, add the coinnamon. Bring to boil then turn down the heat until the plums are very gently bubbling. Simmer like this for around 10 minutes. By now, some of the plums will have begun to disintegrate—some will still be firm. Remove from heat and it’s ready to serve. Delicious hot of cold with a dollop of natural, bio yoghurt.
